PROPOSED FLOOR PLAN REDESIGN / ENHANCEMENT – CLAYTON FITNESS CENTRE

As part of our commitment to providing a progressive training environment that caters to our members and customers needs, we will soon be determining some changes to the equipment layout within the Clayton Fitness Centre.

We have identified an increased demand from members wishing to perform functional type exercises (e.g. deadlifting, the use of kettlebells, deadballs, sled track, ropes, plyometric exercises etc.).

Throughout February 2018 we underwent a member consultation process (a member survey with 302 respondents) which identified that 80.27% of members supported the concept of growing and enhancing the current functional training space via the relocation/reduction of the existing stationary pin loaded machines.   This supports our own daily and weekly insights, including informal feedback from members and customers, that there is a growing demand for functional training space with the Clayton Fitness Centre.
This proposal will complement and add to staged recent functional training enhancements implemented within the Fitness Centre over the past 4 years, specifically:

·         2014 – Installation of Matrix Training Unit (functional frame)

·         2015 – Relocation of cycle studio and creation of new functional training space, including a sled track

·         2016 – Enhancement of the Matrix Training Unit (functional frame) and procurement of additional functional training equipment

·         2017 – Installation of additional lifting platforms/ weight plates/ bars

After consideration, it is proposed that throughout June / July we make the following changes in order to create a training space that is more aligned to our members’ preferences and needs:

1.       Relocation of the following pin loaded machines from the downstairs training area to the training area on level 1:

V Squat
FTS Glide Cable Machine
Glute Machine
Assisted Chin / Dip  x 2
Leg Press
Compound Row
Hip Abduction/Adduction
Dips Machine
Shoulder Press

2.      Removal and disposal of the following pin loaded machines from the downstairs training   area:

Vertical Chest
Leg Curl
Lat Pulldown
Prone Leg Curl
Pec Fly
Ab Crunch
Leg Extension
Torso Rotation
Back Extension

* Please note – All these machines are duplicated with identical machines located in the training area on level 1.   As a result these pieces of equipment on level 1 will still be accessible to members and customers.

       3.    Removal and disposal of the following pin loaded machines from the level 1 training area:

Pullover
Observations indicate that this is a low usage machine. A more popular machine from the downstairs training area will be relocated to this space.
Incline Press
Observations indicate that this is a low usage machine. A more popular machine from the downstairs training area will be relocated to this space.
Chin Dip Station x 2
These units are duplicated with identical units that will be located in the training area on level 1. Additional equipment from the downstairs training area will be relocated to this space.
Preacher Curl
This machine is duplicated with an identical machine that will be located in the upstairs training area. Additional equipment from the downstairs training area will be relocated to this space.
Tricep Extension
This machine is duplicated with an identical machine that will be located in the upstairs training area. Additional equipment from the downstairs training area will be relocated to this space.

4.       Creation of additional open space in the downstairs training area to perform a variety of functional/progressive exercises such as:

Deadlifts
Circuit Training
Olympic Lifts
Multi Planar Training
Plyometric Training
Mobility Exercises
Body Weight Exercises
Unilateral Based Training
H.I.I.T Exercices
Tabata Training
Kettlebell Training
Deadball / Medicine ball Exercises
Floor Based Training
Aquabag / Instability Based Exercises
Movement Enhancement Based Training
Trigger Point / MFI Exercises
Crossfit Type Training
Power Based Training

5.      The purchase and installation of additional functional training equipment for the downstairs training area such as:

 A wider Sled Track
An additional Lifting Platform
Additional Bumper Plates
Additional Olympic Bars
Prograde Kettlebells
Additional Deadballs
Coremax Aquabags
Slosh Balls
Torsion Bars
Additional Medicine Balls
Slam Balls
Additional Foam Rollers
Sandbells
Powerbags

We will endeavour to minimise the interruption to members’ training while implementing these changes and aim to have works completed throughout our off peak period of June/July 2018.
We welcome any final comments and feedback from you by Friday 15th June, 5.00pm.  These can be communicated directly to Monash Sport Fitness Centre staff for collection via our normal feedback mechanism.

We look forward to building on recent enhancements and further improving the training environment at the Clayton Fitness Centre, so that we can continue to deliver high quality services.
 FAQ
Why are these changes being proposed?
Monash Sport has identified the current functional training space is not sufficient based on member feedback and usage demands, particularly in peak periods. Across the last 16 months, the functional training space has had more than twice as much usage as the stationary pin loaded equipment located in the downstairs training area.
Based on this demand, informal and formal feedback received from members and best-practice industry trends (and our desire to ensure we’re offering members what they need to achieve their goals), it is proposed to enhance this area in order to provide greater functional / progressive training options for our members.
A member consultation process in the form of a short survey was undertaken earlier in 2018 which demonstrated that 80% of members were in support of creating more options when it came to functional training space and equipment.
How will this benefit my training?
Increasing the space allocated for functional training type exercises will provide a greater range of training options for members to implement and integrate into their current workouts.
Utilising functional training based tools and practices can assist in contributing to a wide range of exercise, health and fitness goals, whether it be increasing strength, fitness and the ability to move effectively/agility or decreasing body fat and injury prevention.
It’s important to remember that Monash Sport will continue to provide the facilities and equipment required to perform “traditional” type training (training on pin-loaded machines, performing free weight isolation based exercises etc.).
We strive to create a training environment where all forms of training can be practiced and performed and we will continue to do so.  We aim to provide you with the highest quality fitness facilities and services and that is why we look to continually improve our facilities.
Which machines are being removed?
In order to accommodate the increased floor space required to grow the functional training area, a number of stationary pin loaded machines will need to be either relocated to the upstairs training area or removed from the Fitness Centre.  These pieces of equipment are specified in this proposal.  It is unavoidable that some machines in the downstairs training area will be removed.

Our proposal includes every effort to make duplicated machines (machines that are already located in the training area on level 1) are the priority for removal from the downstairs training area.
What if I need assistance once the changes have been made?
Monash Sport prides itself on providing high levels of service.  Unlike some providers, we staff the Fitness Centre with qualified fitness instructors from the moment we open to the time we close, with multiple instructors during peak times - this is a diminishing trend in the fitness industry.
Our instructors are on hand at any time should you have any questions or need any assistance learning more about functional/progressive training and learning how to perform these exercises, what the benefits are and  how to integrate these type of exercises into your existing workout.
Most of our memberships include the opportunity to book in with a Monash Sport instructor to have a personalised exercise program developed. This program is specific to you and is one of the best ways to ensure you’re on the right track to achieving your goals.
Please speak to one of our friendly instructors if you need any assistance.   We are here to help you.
